The Passport Club at Redmond Elementary
I am Red, the bear, and I travel around
the world for the Passport Club!
If you would like to know more about my adventures and the places I have seen, check out my blog at www.travelpod.com.
The purpose of the Passport Club© is to get students excited about geography, and to provide them with accurate and interesting study materials that keep pace with our ever-changing world. It is an individualized, sequential, year-long program which is designed to enhance the current social studies curriculum. The basic goal of the program is to learn the location of some, or all, of the world's countries, as well as other major geographic locations such as continents and oceans. A child who progresses through the program during elementary school, should enter middle school with a feeling of confidence about geography and a very high retention level. Different levels make this program accessible to all ages.

The program was designed by a grade school teacher, and built out of enthusiasm for geography. It began at Centennial Elementary in Olympia, Washington, in September 1994, with 400 students. In the fall of 2006, there were more than 110 schools in twelve states using the program. The Passport Club© has also been used at American schools in Shanghai, China and Penang, Malaysia.

How can you help?
- Help your child get prepared for Passport Check Day. Practice with your child at home–a few minutes two times a week is all it takes (and you can update your own geography skills too!). The Passport Club© is, among other things, a great game. You and your child can quiz each other, have fun together and share the joy of learning.
- Volunteer to do Passport Club activities in your children’s classroom. Teachers would be thrilled if you or your child shared your cultural heritage with their students.
-
Volunteer for one Check Day or other Passport activities. Running the Passport Club© requires a great deal of volunteers, especially on Passport Check Day. Spread the news! The Passport Club© welcomes:
- Parents and guardians
- Grandparents, older siblings, aunts and uncles, family friends
- Working parents, parents with preschoolers, parents that can help before or after school only, parents that don’t speak English fluently, the Passport Club has the right task for you.
- Anybody with a wish to help children and increase their world knowledge in the process
- To volunteer, please contact the Coordinator at passportclub@redmondelptsa.org, or call 425.881.3402 (también en español). By signing up for one or two (or more!) Passport Check dates this year, re-checking or helping from home, you will be opening a whole new world to your child and all the students at Redmond Elementary.
