Reflections Program
The Redmond Elementary PTSA believes that all children deserve a quality arts education and encourages students to pursue artistic expression through participation in its annual Reflections Program. The Reflections Program is a National PTA and Washington State PTA cultural arts competition.
The program offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition. Each year, the Reflections Program challenges students to create art that relates to a specific theme. The 2008-2009 Reflections theme is “WOW“.
Participation
Young artists in preschool through grade 12 can participate in the Reflections Program through the PTSA. A student may submit an entry in any of the six arts areas listed below. Only original works of art are accepted in the following areas:
- Literature: works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, prose, drama, short stories and lyrics
- Musical Composition: original musical composition, with or without words.
- Photography: prints up to 11 x 14 inches in color or black and white, including techniques: photogram, retouched, montage, sandwich and multiple exposure.
- Visual Arts: drawing, painting in tempera, oil, acrylic, watercolor & t-shirt paints, computer generated art, two-dimensional collage, printmaking, needlework & leather tooling.
- Dance / Choreography: originally choreographed dance composition (recorded on VHS tape or DVD).
- Film / Video Production: original works, with or without sound, of animation, narrative, documentary, experimental or music video/film.
Participation in the Reflections Program is organized by grade level. Student works are critiqued against others in the same grade division. This allows recognition and judging of artwork according to appropriate developmental age and skill levels.
Please encourage your child(ren) to enter this wonderful artistic program. Please contact Laura, if you have any questions or would like to work as a volunteer for the 2008/2009 Reflections program.
